The effect of salinity and osmotic stress on protein synthesis was stu
died in cowpea Rhizobium 4a. Osmotic component of salinity stress has
been shown to induce ten proteins in a salt tolerant/ osmosensitive co
wpea Rhizobium. 4a (groundnut isolate). Of these seven polypeptides we
re induced only by salt/osmotic stress while two were induced by heat
shock. The results demonstrate a commonality as well as stress specifi
city of protein synthesis regulation.
