Abstract
Based on acid hydrolysis, methylation, and one- and two-dimensional H- 1- and C-13-NMR spectroscopy, including two-dimensional homonuclear an d C-13, H-1 heteronuclear correlation spectroscopy (COSY4) and two-dim ensional rotating-frame nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (ROESY) , it was found that the O-specific polysaccharide chain of the lipopol ysaccharide of the bacterium Proteus mirabilis O30 is a hexosaminogluc uronan built up of tetrasaccharide repeating units having the followin g structure: [GRAPHICS] The degree of O-acetylation of 2-acetamido-2-d eoxyglucose is about 70%.
