The now-vacuum pyrolyses of 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one (5); 10,1
1-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one (6) and 5,7-dihydro-6H-dibe
nzo[a,c]cycloheptena-6-one (7) were examined at 1.033 mbar and differe
nt temperatures between 850 degrees C and 1050 degrees C. The formatio
n and the time dependence of reaction products (phenanthrene from 5; a
nthracene, phenanthrene, fluorene, dihydrophenanthrene from 6; phenant
hrene, dihydrophenanthrene and fluorene from 7) as function of tempera
ture are discussed. The suggested reaction mechanisms am compared with
related literature data.
