Abstract
Absorption and photostimulation bands of the aggregates of F centers e xist near 900 nm in the near infrared region for BaFX:Eu2+ (X=Cl, Br) crystals. This study reveals that there is no response time difference of photostimulated luminescence (PSL) under stimulation either by a n ear infrared light beam of 1.06 mu m on the aggregated F centers or by a visible light beam on the simple F centers for BaF(1+x)X(1-x):Eu2+, BaFCl1-yBry:Eu2+, and BaFCl:Pr3+. Under stimulation of 1.06 mu m, the response time of PSL is 8.0 mu s for BaFCl:Eu2+, 0.75 mu s for BAFBr: Eu2+, and about 19 mu s for BaFCl:Pr3+, respectively, which agrees wit h their photoluminescence lifetime. This kind of F center aggregate is of interest for applications using a solid-state semiconductor laser in the field of information storage.
