Abstract
The investigation focuses on the development of hp-adaptive methods fo r simulation of acoustical scattering problems. The present formulatio n is based on steady-state linear elasticity equations coupled with th e Burton-Miller integral equation, representing the behavior of a surr ounding acoustical medium. The highlights of the proposed approach inc lude: a mathematically consistent variational formulation of the probl em, an hp-adaptive FE/BE approximation based on standard Galerkin meth ods, an element by element solver, a residual-based, a posteriori erro r estimate, an hp-adaptive strategy. Particular attention is given to asymptotic convergence and to a comparison of theory and numerical sim ulations.
