PROCESSING OF NANOCRYSTALLINE MATERIALS BY SEVERE PLASTIC-DEFORMATIONCONSOLIDATION OF POWDERS

In this paper three examples for severe plastic deformation consolidat ion (SPDC) of powders are considered. The first one is the compaction of an oxidized powder characterized by the formation of supersaturated nanocrystals due to the dissolution of second phases during SPDC. Sec ond, consolidation of a mixture of metal and ceramic powders is consid ered in order to produce nanocomposites with high strength and thermos tability. Third, ball-milled powders have been consolidated. The struc ture and macroscopic properties of these new materials are discussed.
