The effect of nutrient addition, molasses clarification with NaH2PO4.H
2O, sugars concentration (55 to 145 g/L) and temperature (30 to 40 deg
rees C) on the growth rate and ethanol production using Zymomonas mobi
lis CP4 in batch fermentation process was studied. The best ethanol yi
elds were obtained using clarified and supplemented molasses. Growth r
ate and ethanol production were optimum at 34 degrees C and sugars con
centration of 110 g/L. At temperatures up to 37 degrees C inhibitory e
ffects on growth and fermentation were observed.
