Kinetics of PG-50 powder graphite oxidation in sulfuric acid solutions
of potassium permanganate were investigated. The constants of liquid-
phase oxidation of graphite powder were determined at various temperat
ures. Graphite powder was found to react with KMnO4 sulfuric acid solu
tion in the temperature range under 60 degrees C. With further increas
e in temperature, oxidation yielding CO2 is intensified. From the Evan
s corrosian diagrams platted for the short-circuit element (-) C\KMnO4
, H2SO4\Pt (+) suggestions are made concerning the diffusion limitatio
ns of the process. The possibility of Electrochemical regeneration of
the oxidant at Pt, Pb, steel, and graphite electrodes was investigated
by cyclic chronovoltammetry.
