Recent results on the VUV-photoionization of laser-excited atoms obtai
ned by photoelectron spectroscopy are reviewed. There are two groups o
f experiments: In the first group electron correlation phenomena, espe
cially satellite emission, are studied in direct inner-shell photoioni
zation processes of unpolarized atoms, whereas in the second group of
experiments aligned excited atoms are prepared in order to probe the r
esonant excitation of inner-shell electrons to autoionizing resonances
