Jr. Sites et Xx. Liu, RECENT EFFICIENCY GAINS FOR CDTE AND CUIN1-XGAXSE2 SOLAR-CELLS - WHATHAS CHANGED, Solar energy materials and solar cells, 41-2, 1996, pp. 373-379
During the period between 1987 to 1994, a number of laboratories have
contributed to truly remarkable efficiency gains for thin-film cells w
ith polycrystalline CdTe and CuIn1-XGaXSe2 (CIGS) absorbers. Total-are
a efficiencies have increased from just above 10% to over 16%, and the
se cells can now be sensibly compared with single-crystal cells of com
parable bandgap. A number of factors have contributed to these gains,
but the most significant has been the reduction of recombination state
s in the depletion region and the resulting drop in forward-current de
nsity.
