Abstract
This paper presents a method for controlling a deflection shape of a f lexible beam by using shape memory alloy wires. The analytical solutio n for the deflection of the beam under the austenite transformation of the wires was obtained first, then a method for controlling the defle ction shape was discussed on the basis of the genetic algorithm. Numer ical calculations were carried out for some typical examples. It is cl arified that the present system and the control method are applicable to the deflection control of flexible structures.
