Communication: Blue light emitting devices based on a rigid-rod polyel
ectrolyte-sulfonated poly(p-phenylene), see Figure-that has both lumin
escent and ionic moieties have been prepared and their properties inve
stigated. It is reported that the devices exhibited a low onset voltag
e (3.3 V), the external quantum efficiencies reached 0.8 %, and the si
ze of the counter ion had a pronounced influence on the electrical cha
racteristics.
