We consider magnetoacoustic effects from the standpoint of their possi
ble application in nondestructive ultrasonic inspection of the structu
re of a material. We pay special attention to magnetoacoustic effects
in wave polarization. Based on the relation between elastic and magnet
ic parameters of materials, we determine the structure-sensitive param
eters. We discuss in detail the magnetoacoustic properties of material
s modeled by a transversely isotropic medium such as austenitic-ferrit
ic steels and the material of a weld seam, and some types of composite
s. We briefly consider the application of magnetoacoustic methods for
inspection of composite materials with a helicoidal magnetic structure
. We consider methods for measuring the polarization of ultrasound as
applied to nondestructive inspection. This work is based on a theoreti
cal concept developed fry K. B. Vlasov in [1].
