Cl. Lu et al., CORD - A WDM OPTICAL NETWORK - DESIGN AND EXPERIMENT OF FAST DATA SYNCHRONIZATION BY PILOT-TONE TRANSPORT, IEEE photonics technology letters, 8(8), 1996, pp. 1070-1072
CORD is a 2.5-Gb/s/lambda wavelength division multiple (WDM) packet sw
itched network experiment, We have experimentally demonstrated a pilot
-tone transport for the high-speed data synchronization in CORD, The o
ptical power penalty is minimized to about 1 dB by equalizing the freq
uency response of the payload data channel and optimizing the pilot-to
ne modulation depth. The main advantages of the pilot-tone transport a
re: 1) a simple transceiver structure; and 2) a fast clock recovery ti
me (within 40 b, 16 ns).
