Nickel dimer ions produced and cooled in a supersonic expansion are st
udied by two-color resonant photodissociation. Five excited electronic
states have been analyzed and their corresponding vibrational frequen
cies, anharmonicities and electronic origins are presented. The vibrat
ional quantum numbering for all the assigned transitions has been dete
rmined via analysis of the spectra of the naturally occurring isotopic
variants of the molecule, The ground state stretching frequency for t
he Ni-58(2)+ is estimated from this isotopic analysis as 270 +/- 25 cm
(-1).
