Abstract
The cerium(III)-mediated addition of diethyl (lithiodifluoromethyl)pho sphonate to a benzoquinone monoketal allows the synthesis of phenol be aring the (diethoxyphosphonyl)difluoromethyl group via short, scaleabl e reaction sequences which avoid the use of the DAST reagent.
