Abstract
The growth rate of instability for the azimuthal modes m = +/-1 of a f luid layer flowing down the inside and the outside of a slowly rotatin g cylinder is obtained analytically in the long-wave approximation. He re in contrast to a previous paper (Phys. Fluids A 5 (1993) 2390) the effects of the Coriolis force have been included. It is found that in some circumstances the mode m = -1 is the most unstable. It is shown t hat the results for these modes without rotation have the linear resul ts of Shlang and Sivashinsky (J. Phys. France 43 (1982) 459) as partic ular case.
