Abstract
Lignin peroxidase (LIP) isozymes of Phanerochaete chrysosporium are en coded by a large family of closely related genes, whose total number i s still unknown. Among genomic clones, obtained using the polymerase c hain reaction to clone the LIP gene LPOA from Phanerochaefe chrysospor ium strain BKM-F 1767, another LIP gene was found. This gene, HG3, sho wed more than 95% nucleotide homology to those LIP gene variants which encode LIP isozyme H8. The gene encodes a protein of 372 amino acids, including the typical leader sequence for secretion, that is identica l to the LIP isozyme H8 except for 6 amino acid substitutions.
