Abstract
During the last years phenalenone gained great importance as reference sensitizer for singlet oxygen production with a quantum yield close t o unity. However, its photochemical stability under various reaction c onditions had not been examined so far. In this contribution, we prese nt first results showing that photochemical decompositon of phenalenon e occurs in solvents from which hydrogen-abstraction is possible. Furt hermore, a physical quencher for singlet-oxygen is formed during photo lysis.
