aDNA typing will enable reliable kinship analysis for prehistoric grou
ps and populations. Examples are given for the PCR based amplification
of alleles of the human short tandem repeat loci HUMVWA31/A and HUMTH
01 from ancient teeth and bone samples. Methodological obstacles and i
mprovements are presented and discussed. On focus are aDNA storage, re
producibility and reliability of aDNA amplification and allel determin
ation as basic prerequisites for kinship reconstruction.
