Nonuniqueness associated with statics estimation using reflection or r
efraction data alone can be largely overcome by using both data types
together. The use of both reflection and refraction data has the effec
t of increasing the effective aperture of the observations, and hence
generating better constrained velocity estimations. A tomographic inve
rsion for velocity allows direct incorporation of both data types and
topography in a single formulation. The resulting velocity distributio
n can be the basis of static corrections for all angles of propagation
