Reaction of 4-chlorobenzylidene-2,4-dimelyl acetophenone and 4-chlorob
enzylidene-2-methoxy-4-methyl acetophenone with thiourea gave the corr
esponding pyrimidin-2-thione derivatives. These pyrimidin-2-thione der
ivatives reacted with a variety of nucleophiles and electrophiles to g
ive substituted pyrimidines, mercaptopyrimidines, furanones, and pyrid
azines.
