Li. Guseva et al., NEW PROCEDURE FOR ION-EXCHANGE PURIFICATION OF BERKELIUM WITH AQUEOUS-ORGANIC SOLUTIONS OF NITRIC-ACID CONTAINING TRIOCTYLPHOSPHINE OXIDE, Radiochemistry, 38(3), 1996, pp. 228-231
Sorption behavior of actinides (Th-Cf) and some fission elements was s
tudied in acetonitrile solutions containing trioctylphosphine oxide (T
OPO) on Dowex-50 cation exchanger in the presence of oxidant (PbO2) in
the resin phase. The procedure was developed of berkelium separation
from other actinides, fission elements (except Ce), and nonradioactive
impurities using two cation-exchange columns (with PbO2 and without o
xidant) and aqueous-organic solutions of HNO3 containing TOPO as eluen
t. We obtained high coefficients of berkelium-249 separation (>10(3))
from all the alpha-radionuclides in the (Dowex-BO + PbO2)-1 M HNO3-0.1
M TOPO-90% CH3CN-Dowex-50 system in a single cycle. Recommendations a
re presented on the additional treatment to remove Ce from Bk.
