Abstract
Since academic year 1993/1994, a new lecture course, Radioecology, was introduced at the Chemical Department of the St. Petersburg State Uni versity (SPbGU). This course is a part of the syllabus for fifth-year students of non-radiochemical specializations. The course material inc ludes the following sections: (1) Types of radiation and their biologi cal impact; (2) sources of radiation in the biosphere; and (3) radiati on monitoring and determination of radionuclides in various objects. T he lecture course is intended to prepare scientifically educated speci alists in this field, who would be able to competently solve problems related to radioecology.
