We describe the favourable long-term outcome after late total knee joi
nt prosthesis infection in an elderly RA patient. Peptostreptococcus m
icros and Propionibacterium acnes were cultured from the synovial flui
d, and the finding of a coexistent abscess at the root of a wisdom too
th suggested a dental origin to the joint infection. Long-term antibio
tics in conjunction with aspiration/irrigation resulted in salvage of
the implant and an excellent functional outcome.
