P. Merviel et al., PLACE OF MICROBIOPSIES IN THE THERAPEUTIC AND DIAGNOSTIC STRATEGY IN CASE OF MAMMARY MICROCALCIFICATIONS - PRELIMINARY-RESULTS, Bulletin du cancer, 83(7), 1996, pp. 573-580
The increase of mammographies has lend to the discovery of more freque
nt mammary microcalcifications, Presently, about 30% of breast tumors
are discovered from infraclinics lesions. Instead of the differents cl
assifications, the microcalcifications are the omnious sign with bad s
pecificity. It is in the aim to improve the diagnostic etiology and th
e choice of therapy, that the directed microbiopsies on microcalcifica
tions had been realized. After an orthogonal location and under local
anesthesia, we performed at least six biopsies with a 2.1 mm (14 gauge
) needle. This allowed recovery of malignant lesions during the contro
l of microcalcifications and permitted considerable early operative tr
eatment. In fact, a diagnostic and therapeutic advancement of 12 month
s as compared to a clinical diagnosis, permitting a 30% reduction of m
etastasis.
