The long-term stability of a new electrophoretic insitu activation of
cathodes was tested under tough industrial conditions. It was seen in
these tests that this activation, which employs electrocatalysts witho
ut expensive noble metals, can be applied, essentially without any dis
ruption of hydrogen production and without any downtime of the electro
lyzers. This activation proved to be stable in its effect and insensit
ive to catalyst poisoning over a number of years.
