Twelve years ago oocyte donation was first introduced for the treatmen
t of infertility. Today donated oocytes are regularly used to assist w
omen with a variety of reproductive disorders.(1) In the past few year
s many assisted reproduction programs have incorporated oocyte donatio
n into their fertility practice. Presently more than 2000 oocyte donat
ions are performed annually in the United.States.(2) It is certain tha
t this number will continue to grow A review of the clinic-specific da
ta submitted to the American Fertility Society further illustrates the
increasing use of oocyte donation for the treatment of infertility (T
able 1).(3-8) Indications for oocyte donation are expanding, and the n
umber of patients requesting care continues to escalate as its popular
