Abstract
We present theoretical and experimental results on the evolution of th e threshold absorption of a 2D electron gas as a function of electron density. We pay particular attention to the low density regime where t he spectrum evolves from an exciton to a Fermi edge singularity, The m any-body origin of the Moss-Burstein shift is emphasized.
