G. Schedelbeck et al., RESONANT INELASTIC LIGHT-SCATTERING BY ELECTRONIC EXCITATIONS IN TUNABLE QUANTUM-WIRE STRUCTURES, Surface science, 362(1-3), 1996, pp. 783-787
Resonant inelastic light scattering was used to investigate both charg
e density excitations and spin density excitations in shallow etched G
aAs/AlGaAs quantum wires. A semi-transparent Schottky gate was evapora
ted on top of the samples which allowed a strong tunability of the ele
ctron density and the lateral confinement, even under high illuminatio
n conditions used for inelastic light scattering. The range of charge
density excitations extended from confined plasmons to a plasmon band
structure. Both intra- and intersubband single-particle excitations we
re observed. The occurrence of a tunable doublet structure in depolari
zed plane wave spectra is attributed to spin flip intrasubband single-
particle excitations.
