The quantitative traits ''ear length'' and ''plant height'' were analy
zed in maize by means of hybridological and statistical analysis. Matr
oclinous haploids derived from the parental lines and their direct and
backcross hybrids were used. Haploids were obtained by genetic induct
ion. It is proposed that the traits studied are controlled by oligogen
es. The results of genetic analysis suggest that haploids of the paren
tal lines are characterized by the interaction of three nonallelic gen
es in respect to the ear length trait, and by the interaction of two n
onallelic genes in respect to the plant height trait. The data obtaine
d shows that haploids have great promise for genetic analysis.
