The rare case of a large wooden foreign body impaled in the cranio-orb
ital region, and its late diagnosis and successful removal, is present
ed. A 26-year-old man was admitted to a regional hospital after suffer
ing a severe penetrating craniocerebral injury from a motorcycle accid
ent. Two months after the accident, computed tomographic examination a
t Burdenko Neurosurgical institute revealed a large foreign body locat
ed in the cranio-orbital region and penetrating the right. temporal lo
be, with surrounding abscess development. Radiological examination, in
cluding three-dimensional computed tomography, enables one to choose t
he optimal surgical approach and to remove the foreign body, thereby a
voiding purulent, inflammatory complications.
