Pr. Williams et Pm. Williams, PRESSURE-TENSION CYCLES INDUCED BY DYNAMIC STRESSING AND CAVITATION IN LIQUIDS, Journal of physics. D, Applied physics, 29(7), 1996, pp. 1904-1909
The cyclic pressure-tension records as reported for the dynamic stress
ing of liquids by the 'tube-arrest' and 'bullet-piston' methods are ex
plained in terms of the growth of cavitation bubbles. This explanation
, which invokes a hydrodynamic argument based on incompressible theory
, is shown to accord with experimental results and clarifies previous
indications in the literature.
