The term ''schizophrenia'' can be translated into ''split mind,'' whic
h usually refers to an abstract and complex theory of split psychic fu
nctions. In a different sense, however, being split may mean the bodil
y experience of a second person existing within the diseased individua
l who appears doubled. Three cases are presented to illustrate this ph
enomenon, called ''bodily experienced disturbances of the self,'' and
the difference from Schneider terminology is stressed.
