Abstract
The epizootic Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) observed in the village of Camberene in Dakar suburds in 1999 was surprising for its severity . A special O-4 K-H- ent(++) type of Escherichia coli with fimbriae an d adhesion factors may have potentialized the virus effect and worsene d the prognosis. The authors underline the difficulties in early diagn osing epizootic diseases in African settings and the absence of adequa te animal health protection in situation when herders' investment is n ot marginal.
