T. Parthasarathy et al., PHOTOPOLYMERIZATION OF N,N'-METHYLENEBISACRYLAMIDE USING ISOPROPANOL-AG(I) SYSTEM AS INITIATOR, Bulletin des Societes chimiques belges, 105(12), 1996, pp. 743-745
Isopropanol (ISP)-Ag(I) photoinitiator has been used for the kinetic s
tudy of polymerization of a non-conjugated divinyl monomer N,N'-methyl
enebisacrylamide (MBA). Rate of polymerization was found to proportion
al to [MBA](1.50), [ISP](0.43), [Ag(I)](0.50) and I-a(0.50). Formation
of an adduct between Ag(I) and ISP followed by its excitation, decomp
osition of the excited adduct to give initiating ketyl radicals, intra
-molecular cyclization of monomer radical prior to propagation and mut
ual termination is proposed as possible mechanism and discussed.
