Abstract
A new trirutile MTa(2)O(6) was synthesized by thermal decomposition of a freeze dried Cu-Ta-oxalate precursor. Its formation takes place pre ferentially starting from Cu-rich precursor compositions. Above 1000 d egrees C decomposition leads to the already known perovskite like stru cture with a composition Cu1.05Ta1.98O6. The degree of the orthorhombi c distortion of the perovskite unit cell depends on the conditions dur ing the cooling process after perovskite formation.
