A 7.5-year-old male dog was presented with a history of depression, we
ight loss, exercise intolerance, and intermittent diarrhea with melena
. Clinical examination revealed an abdominal mass and anemia. On explo
ratory celiotomy an ileal mass was found and excised surgically. Histo
pathology of the mass revealed it to be a leiomyosarcoma. The dog was
put on chemotherapy and survived for 20 months postoperatively. Intest
inal leiomyosarcomas may have a favorable prognosis provided wide surg
ical excision is instituted.
