Xm. Xi et al., A SIC-REINFORCED ALUMINUM-ALLOY BY RAPID PRESSURELESS INFILTRATION INUNCONTROLLED ATMOSPHERES, Advanced composite materials, 5(4), 1996, pp. 283-289
A SiC-aluminum composite was fabricated by infiltrating Al-Si alloy pr
essurelessly into a carbon-containing SiC preform in a normal air envi
ronment. The infiltration is rapid, less than 10 min for a 10 mm thick
section, and the obtained composite was near-net-shape. The microstru
cture and mechanical properties of the composite are reported.
