GENERATION OF CELL POLARITY IN YEAST

Yeast cells constitute an excellent system for studying cell polarity. They polarize by means of internally programmed patterns of cell divi sion; they polarize chemotropically towards a partner during mating; a nd they utilize polarity to segregate cell-rate determinants during di vision. In the past year, considerable progress has been made towards increasing our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying ea ch of these processes.
