The paper followed up the development of some composite materials, mad
e up of silica sol and zeolite, having the necessary properties for ex
trusion forming. Therefore a silica sol gelling study was performed, t
o assess the influence of various process parameters, e.g. pH, SiO2 co
ncentration in the sol, temperature, stirring conditions, etc., upon t
he gelling duration. The results thus got were used as a base of the s
ilica sol-zeolite system gelification study. The conclusion was that t
he best material behaviour to extrusion were got under the following c
onditions: room temperature, non-diluted silica sol, ph 6, and zeolite
inclusion in the partially gelified sol.
