This paper describes the open gradient drum type magnetic separator wi
th superconducting magnet system to develop technologies for dry separ
ation of low magnetic mineral raw material of 4-0 mm (medium size) up
to 25-0 mm (coarse size), The separation zone is 1200 mm x 50 mm with
the magnet system-wrap angle equal to 90 degrees, the magnetic field i
n the separation zone is at the level of 4.5 T, the average value of t
he magnetic forces is 120 T-2/m and the capacity is about 100 t/h. The
results of the optimization and numerical calculations of thermophysi
cal processes in magnetic and cryogenic systems are given. The technol
ogical developments of the design of some separator units are presente
d. The paper also presents the techno-economic indices of the separato
r application at the ore-mining operations.
