Am. Dawson et Db. Montgomery, A DATA-BASE OF MAGNET FAILURES AND ITS RELEVANCE TO MAGNET DESIGN, IEEE transactions on magnetics, 32(4), 1996, pp. 2974-2977
This data base of magnet failures is the formalization of a process th
at began a number of years ago as an effort to see what could be learn
ed From failures to assist in the design process for new magnet system
s, whether they were one-of-a-kind or the next In a series. The learni
ng and evaluation process applies equally to resistive and to supercon
ducting magnets and both are represented in the data base, The informa
tion has been obtained from numerous sources including open literature
and from a survey of members of this community, The updated study was
performed with a particular fetus of assessing the safety potential o
f magnet systems for magnetically levitated vehicles.
