Abstract
Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI) scores from 299 suicidal p sychiatric outpatients were cluster analyzed in hopes of identifying c linical subgroups and deriving specific treatment indications. The ana lysis revealed four personality profiles: Negativistic/Avoidant/Schizo id, Avoidant/Dependent/Negativistic, Antisocial, and Histrionic/Narcis sistic. This grouping was validated by examining demographics, diagnos es, and scores on several psychometric scales. Results showed few diff erences in demographics, diagnosis, or intelligence, but significant d ifferences in depression severity, hopelessness, anxiety, problem-solv ing self-appraisal, and alcohol abuse. Implications for tailoring inte rventions for subtypes of suicidal patients are discussed. (C) 1996 Jo hn Wiley & Sons, Inc.
