Abstract
Adsorption of Hg(II) ions on barium titanate have been investigated ov er a wide range of concentration (10(-3)-10(-8) M), temperature (303-3 33 K) and pH (3.2-10.4) of the adsorptive solution using a radiotracer technique. The uptake was found to increase with increasing concentra tion, temperature and pH of the adsorptive solution. Kinetics of the p rocess follows a first order rate law and agrees well with the classic al Freundlich isotherm for the entire range of adsorptive concentratio n. Removal appears to be ion-exchange in type and thermodynamically ir reversible in nature.
