S. Planes et P. Doherty, EVIDENCE OF A NARROW HYBRID ZONE BETWEEN 2 COLOR MORPHS OF A CORAL-REEF FISH, ACANTHOCHROMIS-POLYACANTHUS AUTHORITY, Bulletin de la Societe zoologique de France, 121(1), 1996, pp. 111-114
Acanthochromis polyacanthus is the only damselfish known not to disper
se pelagic larvae. Moreover, it exhibits a color polymorphism among po
pulations reported in taxonomic works (black and black/white in the pr
esent study). Because of the limitation of gene flow due to benthic la
rvae, the impact of such behavior on the genetic structure of the popu
lation is of great interest. Genetic structure has been surveyed by en
zymatic proteins and exhibited a narrow hybrid zone similar to the mod
el of tension zone.
