S. Burdman et al., PROMOTION OF NOD GENE INDUCERS AND NODULATION IN COMMON BEAN (PHASEOLUS-VULGARIS) ROOTS INOCULATED WITH AZOSPIRILLUM-BRASILENSE CD, Applied and environmental microbiology, 62(8), 1996, pp. 3030-3033
Inoculation of Phaseolus vulgaris with Azospirillum brasilense Cd prom
oted root hair formation in seedling roots and significantly increased
total and upper nodule numbers at different concentrations of Rhizobi
um inoculum. In experiments carried out in a hydroponic system, A. bra
silense caused an increase in the secretion of nod gene-inducing flavo
noids, as was observed by nod gene induction assays of root exudates f
ractionated by high-performance liquid chromatography. Possible mechan
isms involved in the influence of A. brasilense on this symbiotic syst
em are discussed.
