In this paper a new calculation report scheme is proposed to compute t
he near-field and the far-field directivity patterns of a linear array
, including interaction, and without any assumption concerning the dis
placement held of the transducer radiating surface. The array consists
of N identical, equidistant transducers. For this purpose the far-fie
ld directivity pattern of a set of 2Q + 1 transducers, where only the
middle one is active, is found using the finite element method. Then,
the radiation field of finite phased and focused arrays can be obtaine
d by summing up the far-field directivity pattern of the 2Q + 1 transd
ucer set weighted by a term taking into account the phase of the nth t
ransducer, which is defined with respect to the one at the origin.
