A new series of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes with Schif
f bases derived from the condensation of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde wi
th glycine, L-valine and L-phenylalanine has been synthesized. The com
plexes were characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, H-1 NMR,
IR, conductivity, magnetic susceptibility measurements and electronic
spectral data. The metal complexes were synthesized with in situ prep
ared N-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthalidene)amino acids. Spectral data indicate
that the ligands function as dibasic terdentate ligands with O, N and
O donor atoms.
