Abstract
Mass transfer with chemical reaction by liquid-liquid phase-transfer c atalysis (LLPTC) for an isothermal batch reactor was analyzed. The rea ction system can be controlled by simultaneous mass transfer of the ca talysts between two liquid phases and chemical reactions in the organi c and aqueous phases. The concept of catalyst-effectiveness us. physic ally meaningful parameters in a liquid-liquid phase-transfer-catalyzed reaction is introduced. The catalyst effectiveness is influenced as ( i) the mass transfer factors, (ii) the ratio of reaction rate coeffici ents of aqueous forward reaction to organic reaction, and(iii) the equ ilibrium constant in the aqueous solution.
